Welcome to Rekora! These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Rekora mobile application and related services (collectively, the “Service”). By creating an account or using Rekora, you agree to these Terms.
Please read these Terms carefully. If you don’t agree with them, please don’t use Rekora.

1. The Service
1.1 What Rekora Does
Rekora is a family memories and stories application that helps you:
- Record and transcribe family stories
- Build a knowledge graph of family relationships
- Receive AI-powered insights and advice based on your family’s history
- Create polls and questions for family members
1.2 Eligibility
To use Rekora, you must:
- Be at least 13 years old
- Have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms
- Not be prohibited from using the Service under applicable laws
If you’re creating an account on behalf of a minor (13-17), you are responsible for their use of the Service.
2. Your Account
2.1 Account Creation
You need an account to use Rekora. When creating an account, you agree to:
- Provide accurate information
- Keep your password secure and confidential
- Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access
2.2 Account Security
You are responsible for all activity under your account. We recommend:
- Using a strong, unique password
- Not sharing your login credentials
- Logging out on shared devices
2.3 Account Deletion
You can delete your account at any time through the app’s profile settings. When you delete your account:
- Your personal data will be permanently removed within 30 days
- Your membership in all circles will be terminated
- Content you contributed to circles may be retained in anonymized form
3. Your Content
3.1 Ownership
You retain ownership of all content you create or upload to Rekora, including:
- Voice recordings
- Transcripts and stories
- Family member profiles
- Photos and other media
3.2 License to Us
By uploading content, you grant Rekora a limited, non-exclusive license to:
- Store and process your content to provide the Service
- Create transcripts from your audio recordings
- Generate AI-powered insights from your content
- Display your content to authorized circle members
This license exists only to operate the Service. We do not claim ownership of your content.
3.3 Content Guidelines
You agree not to upload content that:
- Infringes on others’ intellectual property rights
- Contains illegal material
- Includes malware or harmful code
- Violates others’ privacy without consent
- Is abusive, harassing, or threatening
- Contains explicit sexual content involving minors
We reserve the right to remove content that violates these guidelines.
3.4 Consent for Recording
When recording stories that mention other people, you are responsible for:
- Obtaining appropriate consent from living individuals
- Respecting the privacy of those who don’t wish to be recorded
- Not recording conversations without participants’ knowledge
4. Circles and Sharing
4.1 Family Circles
Rekora organizes content into “circles” (family groups). When you create or join a circle:
- You can view all content shared within that circle
- Other circle members can view content you share
- Circle owners and managers can invite new members

Rekora offers:
- Free tier: Basic features with limitations
- Paid plans: Enhanced features and higher limits
5.2 Billing
Paid subscriptions are processed through:
- iOS: Apple App Store
- Android: Google Play Store
By subscribing, you agree to the payment terms of the respective app store.
5.3 Subscription Terms
- Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled
- Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid charges
- No refunds for partial subscription periods (unless required by law)
5.4 Managing Subscriptions
To cancel or modify your subscription:
- iOS: Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions
- Android: Play Store → Menu → Subscriptions
Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription.
5.5 Price Changes
We may change subscription prices with at least 30 days’ notice. Existing subscribers will be notified before any price increase affects their renewal.
6. AI Features
6.1 AI-Generated Content
Rekora uses AI to:
- Transcribe voice recordings
- Extract information about people and events
- Generate advice and insights (the “Oracle” feature)
- Create follow-up questions
6.2 Limitations
AI-generated content:
- May contain errors or inaccuracies
- Should not be relied upon for medical, legal, or financial advice
- Is based on the context you provide and may miss nuances
- May occasionally produce unexpected or inappropriate responses
6.3 Your Responsibility
You are responsible for reviewing AI-generated content and deciding how to use it. We recommend verifying important information independently.
7. Intellectual Property
7.1 Our Rights
Rekora and its associated trademarks, logos, and content are owned by us or our licensors. You may not:
- Copy or modify the app’s source code
- Reverse engineer the Service
- Use our branding without permission
- Scrape or automatically collect data from the Service
7.2 Feedback
If you provide suggestions or feedback about Rekora, you grant us the right to use that feedback without compensation or attribution.
8. Acceptable Use
8.1 Permitted Uses
Rekora is designed for preserving family memories and facilitating family communication. Use it for its intended purpose.
8.2 Prohibited Uses
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any illegal purpose
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service
- Create fake accounts or impersonate others
- Use automated tools to access the Service without permission
- Attempt to circumvent usage limits or billing
- Use the Service to harass, abuse, or harm others
8.3 Enforcement
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, with or without notice depending on the severity.
9. Disclaimers
9.1 “As Is” Service
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- MERCHANTABILITY
- FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE
- NON-INFRINGEMENT
- ACCURACY OR RELIABILITY
9.2 No Guarantee of Availability
We strive for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance or due to factors beyond our control.
9.3 Data Loss
While we take reasonable precautions to protect your data, we cannot guarantee against data loss. We recommend keeping personal copies of important recordings.
10. Limitation of Liability
10.1 Exclusion of Damages
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, REKORA SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:
- Indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages
- Loss of profits, data, or goodwill
- Service interruption or computer damage
- Any damages exceeding the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim
10.2 Exceptions
Some jurisdictions don’t allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitations of liability. In those cases, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Rekora, its officers, employees, and partners from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from:
- Your use of the Service
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any third party’s rights
- Content you upload or share
12. Changes to Terms
12.1 Updates
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make significant changes:
- We’ll update the “Last Updated” date
- We’ll notify you via email or in-app notification
- We may require you to accept the new Terms to continue using the Service
12.2 Continued Use
Continuing to use Rekora after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you don’t agree, please stop using the Service.
13. Termination
13.1 By You
You can stop using Rekora at any time by:
- Deleting your account through the app
- Unsubscribing from paid plans through your app store
13.2 By Us
We may suspend or terminate your access if you:
- Violate these Terms
- Engage in fraudulent or illegal activity
- Fail to pay for subscription services
- Create risk or legal exposure for us
13.3 Effect of Termination
Upon termination:
- Your right to use the Service ends immediately
- Your data will be deleted according to our Privacy Policy
- Provisions that should survive termination (like liability limits) remain in effect
14. Dispute Resolution
14.1 Informal Resolution
Before filing any legal claim, please contact us at support@rekora.app. We’ll try to resolve the issue informally within 30 days.
14.2 Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, without regard to conflict of law principles.
14.3 Jurisdiction
Any disputes not resolved informally shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales, Australia.
15. General Provisions
15.1 Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Rekora.
15.2 Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect.
15.3 No Waiver
Our failure to enforce any right or provision doesn’t constitute a waiver of that right.
15.4 Assignment
You may not assign your rights under these Terms. We may assign our rights to any affiliate or successor.
